Kate Marr, executive director of the Legal Aid Society of Orange County and Community Legal Services of Southeast Los Angeles County (LASOC/CLS) oversees a staff of just under 100, operating in four offices with an annual budget of $8 million. Before joining LASOC/CLS, Kate was managing attorney of the Supporting Families Workgroup and Long Beach office at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA), where she worked for more than 15 years. There, Kate supervised all of the LAFLA’s family law and immigration work as well as the Greater Long Beach Medical-Legal Partnership, a project she developed and founded in 2011. Kate serves on the executive board of the Los Angeles County Domestic Violence Council and is a founder and co-chair of the Council’s Immigration Committee. Kate is a past recipient of the Los Angeles County Domestic Violence Council’s Domestic Violence Advocacy Award as well as Soroptimist International of Long Beach’s Women of Distinction Award. In 2017, she was selected as a Woman of Distinction in California’s 70th Assembly District for both her direct work with survivors of family violence, sexual abuse, and other forms of trauma and her policy work on behalf of trauma survivors.
